Porn Video Game Maker Dismisses ESRB Ratings

Published by Chris under News

From spong.com (via gamepolitics.com):

porngamema286966m D-Dub Software, the maker of ‘adult’ (porn) game, BoneTown, has declared that it is creating a whole new industry – “The Adult Video Game Industry”. What it really means is that, because it can’t sell its game through traditional games retailers, it’s taking its product to the Internet – a move that could be a signpost on the road to a download-only future for games.

BoneTown, in which players have to indulge in the kind of things that GTA IV hints at, has been given an Adults Only (AO, effectively 18+) rating by America’s Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB). An AO rating means that most major US retailers won’t carry a game. It also means that Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft won’t allow a game on their systems. The answer to this, as far as D-Dub Software is concerned, is to sell both boxed and download versions of its (PC-only…. go figure) game over the Internet.

"Sex Text" Teacher Meets Student Through Warcraft

Published by Chris under News

From escapistmagazine.com:

warcraft_teacherThe secret relationship between one London teacher and her 14-year old student supports the argument that gaming should be kept out of the education system, lest some sex-crazed woman try to seduce a child.

Forty-two year old Lynn Walls met her male student online in one of the Warcraft games (whether it was World of Warcraft or an earlier Blizzard real-time strategy game is unknown). As they built their in-game friendship, she managed to ask him for his phone number and began texting him outside of class. These texts slowly began turning sexually graphic, with Walls explaining explicit sex acts that she would do to the student if they were to meet in person.

Virtual Sex: How Online Games Changed Our Culture

Published by Chris under book

From alternet.org:

Porn and Pong The following is an excerpt from Porn and Pong: How Grand Theft Auto, Tomb Raider and Other Sexy Games Changed Our Culture by Damon Brown, published by Feral House.

The camera zooms in on a perky young woman. She looks to be in her late twenties, perhaps early thirties, and she starts talking to you about her first date: how the restaurant had to kick them out because they talked until it closed, how she looked in his eyes and could tell he was the one for her, about that instant spark, you know, the spark you feel when you click — connect — with someone. The distant strains of Natalie Cole’s "Everlasting Love" — also used in the Diane Lane movie "Must Love Dogs" and other modern divorcee-looking-for-love films — begin to swell in the background.

Her husband (see the ring flashing as he’s gesturing?) is now talking to you about the same incident, but he has a different, complimentary interpretation. A grey-haired, honey-voiced old man begins talking to you. His face seems to take up the whole TV screen. Aren’t you tired of dating, he asks. "Find your soul-mate." He tells you that eHarmony uses scientific data to match people together. There is a science, founder Dr. Neil Clark Warren implies, a science to chemistry, something his company eHarmony analyzes and gives to its subscribers.

‘Mirror’s Edge’ Producer Found Sexed-Up Fan Version Of Heroine ‘Depressing’

Published by Chris under News

From multiplayerblog.mtv.com (via joystiq.com)

twofaiths In an inspired bit of blogging last month, Kotaku’s Brian Ashcraft presented these two images of “Mirror’s Edge” protagonist Faith.

He showed the official version made by EA-owned Swedish development studio DICE, as seen up to the left here. And he showed a version made by a gamer on a Korean message board apparently in the interest of depicting what that gamer found to be a more appealing vision of Asian female beauty, which is on the right.

I asked “Mirror’s Edge” producer Tom Farrer if he’d seen the images — of course, he had — and what he thought of them. His unvarnished answer:

“I remember when I first had that image sent to me. To be honest, I found it kind of sad. We’ve spent time in developing Faith. And the important thing for us was that she was human, that she was more real.

Published by Chris under interview

From asylum.com:

felicia_day If you’re like us and spend half your time at work surfing the net for distractions, you’ve probably been distracted a lot by Felicia Day. Day writes and stars in the hit web sitcom "The Guild" and acted in both "Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog" and "Legend of Neil."
